Charles Wesley, 1747
This hymn was written by the great hymnist Charles Wesley, who wrote over 6,000 hymns. His brother John Wesley is known as the father of Methodism.
HYFRYDOL, Rowland H. Prichard, 1830
This hymn can be set to many tunes. HYFRYDOL is the same tune commonly associated with “Come Thou Long Expected Jesus,” also written by Wesley. BEECHER is the other tune most paired with “Love Divine, All Loves Excelling.”
